Population Growth and Economic Development in Rajasthan: A
Principal Component Analysis Based Approach
Dr. M.R. Singariya
Lecturer - Economics, Govt. College Jaitaran, Rajasthan, India
Vol. 1(1): pp 16-24 (2012)
Abstract: The paper examines the link between demographic variables and
various dimensions of economic development, using district level data of
Rajasthan. In Rajasthan, the progress of socio-economic development among
districts is not uniform. The paper examines the existing variability of
inter-district development and thereby identifying the indicators responsible
for the diversity in development. Instead of studying the variability of a
particular variable across districts, a composite index based on several
indicators has been developed using principal component analysis and districts
are arranged according to indices derived using seven broadly accepted
components.
The findings of the analysis support the general perception about the districts.
It shows Kota on the top with a score of 2.147 in the economic development
dimension and followed by Jaipur, Ganganagar, Hanumangarh and Ajmer. Barmer was
the poorest of all, preceded by Dungarpur, Jalor, Banswara, Dholpur and
Jaisalmer. It discloses higher the level of economic development lower the level
of demographic development. Further, we did multiple regression which explained
that first dimension of economic development which includes per capita net
district domestic product, share of urban population, literacy, electricity,
toilet and current users of family planning methods has had significant and
highest negative impact on demographic variables like crude birth rate, total
fertility rate and decadal population growth rate. Thus the policy implications
to control population growth are clearly highlighted and suggest improving these
common minimum needs.

Abstract: This paper examines the challenges that women entrepreneurs
face in the tourism sector in Zimbabwe. The research targeted female
entrepreneurs selling curios in Masvingo and Victoria Falls which are the prime
tourist destinations in Zimbabwe. Women entrepreneurship has been under
spotlight in Zimbabwe because it is a source of economic growth. Despite the
potential that lies in women entrepreneurs they face additional or at least
different social, cultural, educational and technological challenges than men in
establishing and developing their own enterprises, and accessing economic
resources.
From the interviews conducted, women entrepreneurs in the tourism sector have
difficulties in securing funding, inadequate business related education as well
as social, cultural and religious impediments. This paper engenders to
understand the gender biases embedded in society which constrain women„s
mobility, interactions, active economic participation and access to business
development services. Lastly, appropriate interventions are recommended within
the discourse of entrepreneurship.

Role of Teachers to Enhance the Student’s Approach towards
Leadership through Servant Leadership
Dr. Swayamprabha Satpathy
HOD, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, S'O'A University,
Bhubaneswar, India
Vol. 1(1): pp 46-50 (2012)
Abstract: The great path breaking idea of Servant Leadership put forth by
Robert Greenleaf (1977)(9) has reached its fourth decade as a concept
and it continues to create a quiet revolution in organizations and subsequently
in around the globe. Servant Leadership emphasizes increased service to others a
holistic approach to work, promoting a sense of community and the sharing of
power in decision making. This is the most important aspect to be found in
teachers as they build up the future generation of a country.
The characteristic feature of a leader is in the very word itself as loyal,
energetic, amiable, dutiful, empathetic and righteous and if we abbreviate
teacher we find along with the said features of a leader there is an additional
aspect of a teacher being talented, charismatic and honest. Characteristics
ascribed to this emerging approach to leadership include building empathy for
others, using highly developed powers of motivation and being able to
conceptualize and communicate concepts. Servant Leadership has become a guiding
force and has been adopted by various organizations. Since its conceptual
inception, servant leadership has been espoused by a growing number of
researchers as a “valid theory” of organizational leadership(17) with
a great promise for both theoretical and practical development.(1)

Abstract: Adolescence is a phase of physical, emotional, social
variations, adjustment and development. Anxiety can impact self-esteem,
interpersonal relationships and may lead to alienation. The study investigated
the interrelationships among these variables on undergraduate females and males

Scale (1971)(34), Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory (1967)(11)
and Sharma’s Alienation scale (1988)(32) were used to test the
variables. Significant differences were found among female college students
reporting higher anxiety, self-esteem and alienation than male college students.
Self-esteem and anxiety were highly correlated among males and valid relation
was found between alienation and anxiety. However, gender differences were found
and valid linkages were explored between anxiety and alienation. Further, the
study contributes to examine the social problems that are prevalent among the

Managerial Efficacy through Rounded Life
Dr. Vidhu Gaur
Assistant Professor, Alliance University, Anekal Road, Bangalore, India
Vol. 1(1): pp 57-63 (2012)
Abstract: Highly effective people are not so much brilliant as balanced
in their lives. The most successful people tend to lead a balanced life: while
they work hard on the job, they also spend time with family and friends. This
paper takes somewhat radical position for present time that one can be a success
both at work and at home, and that in fact it is the people with the best family
lives and the best friendships who eventually make the best mark in their
careers. The paper shows ways to find such a healthy balance. The assumption is
that certain fundamental principles of achievement will enable one to rise in
one’s career and to get closer to the people one cares for. For Tolstoy was
right: one can live magnificently if one knows how to work and how to love.

Vol. 1(1): pp 64-70 (2012)
Abstract: The volatile market today makes the whole business aura
difficult to understand especially for management students. Faculty members play
a crucial role in the success of graduate students. Mentoring is a one-to-one,
non-judgmental relationship in which an individual voluntarily gives time to
support and encourage another. The vision of the mentoring program is to foster
a mentor-mentee relationship among the faculty and students, so that the
students can interact with their mentors on a various issues like academics,
personal life, or even about life beyond their home, studies and schools. This
brings about an emotional stabilization through the continuous support. A proper
objective and approach towards mentoring leads to success in the management
career. This paper aims at the objectives, procedure and advantages of
successful implementation of effective student mentoring in management
education.
